IFACS Staff

The IFACS staff comprises a fully-trained team of conservators with a wide range of professional qualifications and specialist skills. IFACS currently employs 6 full-time members of staff who have considerable experience in various fields of conservation. Full curricula vitae of all IFACS conservation staff are available upon request.

IFACS conservators also have close links with heritage institutions and facilities in Europe and are able to access international documentary sources. We are able to undertake art-historical research and offer professional consultations in the following languages: French, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese.

Richard Pelter ACR, FBAPCR | Director, Head Conservator

  • Accredited member of the Institute of Conservation (Icon), and former Chairman and Vice Chairman of its Stone & Wall Paintings section (UKIC).
  • Fellow of the British Association of Picture Conservator-Restorers (BAPCR) and former chairman of the organisation.
  • Member of the International Institute for the Conservation of Historic & Artistic Works (IIC) and the International Council of Museums (ICOM).

Training Opportunities with IFACS

Work Experience pre-Postgraduate Study

Rarely undertaken except under exceptional circumstances, and according to proven interest and capabilities. Mature candidates may be considered.

Placements During Postgraduate Study

A summer programme of six weeks experience may be arranged, for up to two paintings conservation students. Students are employed as interns, or on short term contracts, and expenses are paid.

Advanced Internships

Occasionally advertised or offered, these may run from 1 to 2 years. Outside funding is necessary although IFACS is prepared to help seek funding on behalf of a suitable candidate, as appropriate.
