Project Description

A 19th century fresco painting ‘Neptune Resigning the Empire of the Seas to Britannia’ by William Dyce, 1847. Osborne House, Isle of Wight.

Conservation treatment included consolidation, cleaning, overpaint removal, filling and retouching in watercolour.  Extensive reconstruction of the sky was carried out using an appropriate trateggio technique.  A full technical study of this important work and the artist’s related English-fresco-revival methods at this time was also undertaken.
